According to new research, playing football can harm brain cells

Playing professional sports has traditionally been associated with strenuous physical labour, which frequently results in significant injuries to the athletes. While sports might be physically taxing, they are also thought to be mentally refreshing.

However, recent research has indicated a bleak future for footballers, indicating that football players are more sensitive to mental health problems in old life than the general population.

"Footballers in the 40- to 50-year-old age bracket outperform the general population." However, as they reach the age of 65, things begin to go awry. This demonstrates that the exercise involved with playing football is beneficial to the brain, while the harmful consequences of contact sports come later in life."

According to the study, heading the ball causes damage to brain cells that is not instantaneous, but appears gradually with age. Footballers were found to have sluggish reaction times and reflexes, as well as memory loss, during the study's studies.

"We know that heading the ball has been connected with an increased incidence of dementia among professional football players," said Dr. Michael Grey of the University of East Anglia's School of Health Sciences. However, until today, nothing is known about when players' brain health begins to deteriorate. We are employing cutting-edge technology to detect early signals of cognitive dysfunction, which are detectable long before any memory issues or other visible symptoms appear. This is the first time this type of research has been conducted, and these are the initial findings as we continue to monitor our participants' brain health over the following few years."

Football players were also observed straining to concentrate and multitask. Furthermore, players have a greater risk of dying from dementia than the general population.
